Storage and uninstalling

Storage: how Superposer saves space

Settings › Storage starts with what Superposer has saved you: "Superposer has saved you X GB" (this month and in total), and what it uses per game beyond the games themselves.

Most of this happens by itself:

  • Shared Windows files. Each Windows game gets its own Windows environment (a "prefix"), but identical files are shared between them as clones, so ten games don't take ten times the space.
  • Compress games I'm not playing (on by default): games you haven't played for 30 days are compressed, file by file, where that saves at least about a third. They open as normal; nothing to unpack.
  • Tidying up: old Windows runtimes no game uses, caches over their limits, old test results and backups are removed by themselves (or, with Old runtimes › Ask me, listed for you to approve).

When there's something worth freeing, Free Up X GB Now… shows exactly what goes before anything is removed. Otherwise it says "Nothing to free up right now: Superposer keeps up by itself."

Details & advanced lists everything Superposer keeps, how big it is and why, with Remove… where that's safe, plus Reclaim Shared Space… and Re-clone Game Files… to redo the sharing by hand.

A game's page shows what that game uses and what Superposer saved on it, with Automatic (recommended), Always compress or Never compress, and Compress Now / Decompress.

What is never removed by itself: your screenshots, your save backups, and the prefixes of games you no longer have (those wait for your Remove…). Backups, prefixes and copies of games that you remove go to the Trash, so you can still get them back until you empty it. The saves inside a prefix you remove are kept as a save backup first.
